How Does QR Technology Actually Work?

A deep dive into the Matrix. Understand the squares, the error correction, and the data inside a QR code.

The Anatomy of a QR Code

A QR code isn't just a random pattern of squares. It consists of finder patterns (the three big squares in the corners), alignment patterns, and timing patterns. These allow the camera to orient the code regardless of the angle it's scanned from.

Error Correction

One of the most powerful features of QR technology is the Reed-Solomon error correction. This mathematical algorithm ensures that even if a code is dirty, torn, or covered up to 30%, it can still be perfectly read.

Try It Yourself

You can see this in action by creating a code with "High" error correction using our QR Maker and placing a custom logo right in the middle.
